What's a Youatarian? It's my own phrase I have used when people ask me how I have lost my excess weight. I'm a Youatarian and live the youatarian lifestyle. Simply put, a Youatarian is someone that follows YOU On a Diet. For any YOAD followers out there that would like to adopt the phrase
for themselves, please feel free.

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my blog!

My Story

In July 2006, I visited the doctor for a multitude of
ongoing medical problems and when I weighed
in I remember being 305lbs. That was the heaviest
I could ever remember weighing on any scale in my life.

My wife, also overweight, started some small changes
in her diet at that time and those changes made its way
through into my diet as well.

In September 2006, I watched my mother undergo
triple bypass surgey. And I always believed her
to be of modest health although she had passed
on a few of her problems to me including high blood
pressure and acid reflux issues. In her early 20's,
unaware of her high blood pressure problem, she
actually had a stroke, although not very severe.

My dad is a bit healthier even though being
12 years older than my mom, but he has borderline
adult onset diabetes and he had a stint put into an
artery a few years back.

Taking in all this information, It was then I decided
I needed to make some serious changes in my life
or I will be the next one on the heart ward not too
long from now.

It was Novemeber, 2006 and I was already following
the few changes my wife had made to her diet and we had
both lost about 15lbs in the last few months. Any
change at this point was a good change. We watched
a Discovery Health special called YOU: On A Diet featuring
the YOU docs and a few families incorporating YOAD
into their daily lives and showing their amazing progress.

The very next day, November 7th, 2006, my wife and
I went through every cabinet and cupboard in our
house and got rid of ALL the bad foods. We then
went to the grocery store and bought foods that
met YOAD and from that day we have not looked back!

We could not find the book at any local store so we
ordered it off Amazon. It took a few weeks to arrive
but we started cooking with only YOAD approved foods
using YOAD approved methods and we WERE seeing
results even before the book arrived.

From there it has been all downhilll. I have lost 110lbs
since starting on YOAD in November but about 125lbs
over the last 18 months total. Wahoo!

And most of my medical problems related to my weight
have now vanished including high bood pressure, acid
reflux and sleep apnea. I have much more energy and
I feel better than I can ever remember!

And its all thanks to YOAD!

No more daily menus

I've decided to remove the daily menus from the blog.

It is just too much work to keep up with.

If I make a spcial dinner I want to share, I'll post it in the
same spot on the side bar.

I'll leave up the history. There is almost 2 months worth
of meals and that should help anyone that might want to
see the kind of meals you can enjoy and still be on the
diet.

Have a great week everyone!

Darn, I love coming in here to see what your eating...oh well I understand. I like doing the screen shots of calorie king, it's so easy. I don't do it every day though. Sorry for messing up the tag board...I can wright it here if you didn't get all that. Have a great day!

I know. It's just so time consuming.

The problem with screen shots
of Calorie King is many times
I will use a calculator and figure
out the total calories of a meal
and just put in "generic dinner" and the total calories. Again, it's a time saver but it works.

Yesterday morning I weighed myself
and I was 180.8lbs. OMG! Just seeing the 180 brought a smile and a tear. Hopefully by Sunday when my weight-in is official I'll be below that if not by a few ponts then by maybe more.

I'm not stopping there, though.
I would love to get another 5 or so pounds off if I can :)

Hope you are have a great week!

Wow, that's awesome Marshall!
I just don't understand why my weight isn't coming off faster...you, Rich , Elizabeth and Shannon are loosing lot's of weight. I am at 6 pounds a month. I count calories , eat mostly YOAD approved foods and I work out 6 times a week...what more can I do?
You are still loosing and your at the end of your journey. Maybe it's because I am old, older people don't lose weight as easy.
Sorry for the rant, I am very happy for you and your 180..I hope they were tears of complete joy!!!!

Chari

p.s. did you see Calorie Kings new thing, at the top right side it now says recipes?

Vinyl Bozz said...

New thing? On the program or their
website?

I don't have the most current
version. I bought mine about
a year ago and never updated it.

Everyone loses weight differently
so just gauge your success by YOU :) 6lbs per month is good and its 6lbs less than last month.

Keep up the good work :)

Have you been on Rich's blog lately? I posted in Chris's blog and went to read his reply...He is worried about Rich and after reading Rich's comment in his last post now so am I.

I been reading up and that lady was right about adding 100 calories at a time, if you are still working out and building muscle YOAD is perfect for that you just don't want a calorie deficit. Don't worry Calorie King will help you. If you gain ,more then five pounds reduce your calories, you will be fine.

I have been reading a friend of mines journal and she has been adding extra virgin olive oil to her diet (2 T) a day. There might be something to that...she's losing. I tried it yesterday...need a few more days under my belt to see. I added .5 T to my psyllium and cinnamon with water. twice yesterday and 1 T on my pasta. I was never mush of a fat eater...maybe that's my problem...the only thing is Calorie King didn't like that..lol, I was under calories but way over on fat...wonder if I can adjust that. I made a table in my blog...thanks for the idea...I was looking for something already made up..but reconsidered after chatter boxing with you.
Ok enough....my thoughts are with Rich!

Have a great day my friend!

Yes, I agreed with the 100 calorie
per week or so to get my weight
equalized. I would still like to
get off another 5 or so lbs which
should be pretty easy for me at
this point. But, I plan on
adding the 100 calories after my
1 year anniversary. Seems a good point :)

I get psyllium most days with my
lunch. I take a powdered flavored water packet to work to put in a 20oz bottle that has psyllium in it. It's called VitaSplash Fiber Infusion.

I was worred about Rich, too. But, I am sure he'll be okay. He just needs some time.

What did you think about the quinoa/bison stuffed peppers? :)

We're having turkey BLT's tonite.

Hmmm.haven't read anything about olive oil being used in that way. I'll have to read up on it.

Ohio is central time? I'm in eastern.

Hope you had a great work out!

I am in EDT.

"What did you think about the quinoa/bison stuffed peppers? :)"

I have never had quinoa or bison, I do own a box of quinoa just haven't made any, as for the bison I am very afraid, but the recipe is very intriguing to me and so is this VitaSplash Fiber Infusion you speak of...can you give more info?

Did you see that Chris inquired about the BLT's and mayo on my tag board?

I'll check with ya later, the workout is great getting better everyday!

Take care
Chari

I can understand the apprehension
about trying bison.

It took me 3 or 4 times of having
it to get the "ukkk" factor out
of my mind even though I was
enoying what I was eating. LOL.

It tastes almost exactly like
beef with the same texture
except it is dryer. It's like
a very, very, very lean beef.

And it has much, much less
saturated fat than either turkey
and chicken and more iron than
beef.

It is really a heart healthy
meat.

bison hotdogs huh....hmmm
I am gonna be tossed outa Realage for these thoughts but....

Choclate Bark

4 T. (1/4 cup) Virgin Coconut Oil
1-1.5 T. Cocoa Powder
1/4 t. lowcarb sweetner, such as stevia
2 oz nuts

Melt the coconut oil to a liquid, add in cocoa powder and sweetner. Stir to combine and blend well.

Blend nuts into chocolate mixture

Have chlled a metal bakeware lasagna or cake pan or pans in freezer for 10 minuttes or so. Remove from freezer and line with waxed paper. Then pour mixture into chilled pan and spread to desired thickness.

Pop in refrigerator or freezer on level shelf and let sit 10 minutes or so. It will harden quickly and breaks with a snap.

I have been doing alot of reading this weekend (some of your pots on RA) and other sources. I am going to the health food store tomorrow and buying coconut oil, do you count the calories in your daily totals?

Chari

Vinyl Bozz said...

Wow. The chocolate bark
sounds yummy. My wife just read
the recipe and now she is itching
to make some :)

Yup, we count the coconut oil into
the daily calories. You have
to. 1 tablesoon of any oil
is 120 calories which is a lot.

We think the coconut oil has a very
good flavor, not oily, and
crisps things up better than
any other oil we have used.

If I may ask, what gotcha thinking
about the coconut oil? Was it the
recipe you stumbled across for
chocolate bark?

Well to make a long story shorter, my girl friend on another site I belong to has been losing weight consuming EVOO. She has tried virgin coconut oil the past few days and has said how much energy she has. I tried EVOO this past week and it has helped me as well, so I researched CO on the net and read some of your posts on RA. You said you lost ten pounds before starting YOAD just by consuming CO, and you attribute your amazing loss to adding CO to your diet.
After all this reading I am going to start tomorrow. I also have thyroid problems. I only posted the bark recipe because I knew only you would appreciate it. They would toss me outa RA for that, or at least Flash would..lol. They had another one with coconut they called almond joy.
These people put the CO in their coffee or eat it right off the spoon. If I can find it I will start ingesting 3 T a day. I know it's 380 calories. They had some Spectrum brand at the grocery but it was greasy on the outside like it was leaking and that was the only one. I also read it's good for your skin...may use it as a face lotion as well. Wish me luck!

Wish CO wasn't such a dirty word on YOAD, I kinda feel like a hippocrate mentioning it in my blog, which I have yet to.

Vinyl Bozz said...

I would not worry about being
thought of as a hippocrate. We
all should do what we think is
best for us.

I thought about taking the CO
by itself but decided it wasn't
for me. Not to say I think there
is anything wrong with it. I just
decided to use it for most of
our cooking which works for both
my wife and I.

Did you know that many atheletes
consume coconut oil before
a performance to help increase
thier energy levels?

We used coconut oil last night
in cooking our talapia. It was
awesome :)

Well, I'm off to get ready for
work.

Chat at ya later..
